    Gary D.

I hear you there. I just got home from about a week in hospital. My last chemo crashed my white cells and left me very sick. When the fog in my head cleared a little I remembered to check my temperature. The threshold for a trip to the ER is 100.5. My temp was 103. Talk about crazy, at...

Thanks for the wishes and prayers. Wrong radiation to make me glow but might some other interesting effects. It may help to understand that I stuffed about 2 lifetimes of experience and travel in between age 12 and 30ish. I have plenty left to do, especially in music and trumpet but also...

I picked up a big, fat, aggressive large B-cell lymphoma with high propagation rate. The tumor is in my upper right chest and is slamming the brachial plexus so my right arm is completely paralyzed. The good new is this is one of the most treatable cancers with a very high cure rate. Long...

Are there any women in commercial diving?

There are women in commercial diving and pretty much always have been. Contact Bob3 on here for a different perspective on the buisness. Generally diving inland pays better and has better working conditions than offshore but may require getting into the union. Much commercial diving is...

I could swap arms but it would be a downgrade for you. My tumor has my right arm paralyzed and swollen, worse than useless. Recovery time expected in months but as long as I do recover I will be happy about it. Very hard to deal with now though. Get well soon Gary!

Dumbest thought you've had regarding diving

Dumbest; Thinking I could park the nozzle over my thigh for a moment. Then finding how much of a hicky a Stanley, hydraulic dredge can give you in the 3 seconds it takes to get the tender to cut the power. Then trying to get work done with both the tender and dive supervisor laughing the rest...

    Kayak diving tips and tricks

For a kayak and especially a small sailboat an afternoon with a good instructor can be a tremendous value both in safety and sanity. While I don't expect to dive again, kayaking and sailing are on my list. I would be happy to join and ride herd of the boats while others dive. I have been...

    Newbies are getting "blooded"

Great story redrover. Some people just don't get it. :D I has a 54 Willys wagon when I was in Idaho. Had a massive front bumper weldment. On top of that were the 5.10 gears and it would push darn near anything. Now I am just kicking back in Houston (yes ALASKA). :eyebrow:

Dangers of diving in cold water?

One more factor. Wetsuit diver diving with drysuit divers. The tendency is to try and hang with the group even past the point of cold. When everyone is wet the tendency is to thumb the dive sooner before the cold is as deep. Remember, if doing multiple dives to rewarm between dives. You...

    Reverse Squeeze Help!!

The trick on a reverse block is to go down a few feet to relieve the pressure, pinch and suck as you move up slowly. Use jaw wiggle, chewing motions or other tricks that help you on the way down. It is the mirror image of descent except the mirror is cracked. You don't have to go down. You...

Din or Yoke what do you use and why

The tiny amount of gear I have is yoke by tradition as much as anything else. If I were gearing up today I would go DIN for most everything. More compact and streamlined is reason enough but also stronger and besides, they look cooler. :D
