Get some pop corn folks ;-)

If you catch the annotations that come up during the video you can clearly see he does indeed have a sense of humor.

Get some pop corn folks ;-)

Agreed. Interesting isn't it? The assumptions we make about this father and his family without any prior knowledge. How much knowledge does he have about scuba? How much knowledge does he have about engineering? How much of this knowledge has he passed onto his kids? What interesting and...

Get some pop corn folks ;-)

Is it more advantageous, in terms of advancing our civilization, to bubble wrap our children, or with our guidance, allow them to create and explore?? I'm just gonna drop theses two links here: Discuss.

My friend says Mares regulators aren't good - is this true?

I've never had any problems with my Proton42 metals diving the Graet Lakes in april when the water is still only 1 or 2 degC and service and parts have never been a problem round my area anyway.

    Sea Otter on dive float

Fair enough. I just thought that maybe there could be some middle ground. Good points.

Close encounter of the painful kind? How about bitten , stung or rammed anyone ?

While diving in fresh water, rock bass can be rather aggressive/territorial at times. I've been head butted by them when they charge me, then slapped in the face by their tail when they spin around and dart away dislodging my mask.

    Sea Otter on dive float

Thank you for injecting a bit of reason into the discussion drrich2. There is the letter of the law and then there is the spirit of the law. I'm pretty sure that gently and non-aggressively reclaiming your float from the otter would not be a problem, and if you want, heck, even do it when...

    Are we diving or swimming?

Pfft! Kids these days! In my day we had to fill our tanks by hand with a bicycle tire pump, then descend to the wreck/reef uphill both ways against tidal currents and we liked it that way!! Get off my lawn :-)

Using CLR instead of white vinegar for reg cleaning

To be more precise, the mixing of acid and water is an exothermic reaction (lots of heat produced) and therefore by adding the acid to the water, the water is able to better absorb that heat. Acid on the other hand is not able to absorb heat very well and may start to rapidly boil if you were...

Should SB be required reading in OW classes?

I've always felt that the purpose of an education of any sort, was to develop critical thinking skills. What better way to develop those thinking skills than to ask a question on Scubaboard, get some answers, then try to figure out which of those answers are fact or just opinions.

    Sharks in fresh water

Well I'm not sure how far the Greenland shark is willing to travel into fresher water, but they did mention in the video that it was unusual to see them in that area since they are usually found in deeper colder water much further north and they suggested perhaps changing ocean temps. due to...

    Sharks in fresh water

This documentary is interesting and a bit scary. Shark Attack ; Invasion USA (Documentary) - YouTube I'ts been known for a while that Bull sharks will swim pretty far up fresh water rivers, but what makes me a little more nervous, is that they have found large Greenland sharks far up the St...

What 'Online Content Only' Courses Would You Like To See?

The use of internet technology in education and training, is nothing more than another tool in the tool box. I see nothing wrong with experimenting, as long as we properly acknowledge the the advantages and limitations as we do so.

    sharing air in cold water

I would suggest that if your diving "cold" water, as in below 10c or close to freezing then you really shoud be using a regulator that is designed specifically for cold. That means one that has an enviromentally sealed 1st stage, preferably diaphram, but the sealed piston, like the...

a view from a dive shop

And just to be clear, my comments were not about you specifically. Infact, I do actually try to support my local LDS when I can because they do offer me services that I am willing to pay a "reasonable" premium for, because you are right, it isn't always about price.

a view from a dive shop

Well, for one thing I fully realize that I'm am not a business minded person, or have any business experience what so ever, so I would never attempt to open and LDS just because I was passionate about diving. Ever watch "Shark Tank"? There are alot of people that are very passionate about, and...

a view from a dive shop

The sad realitiy is, if you don't have a business model that will be profitable in todays scuba market, no amount of passion or hard work on you part is going to help much. You seem like a nice guy and it sounds like you run a good shop, but business is business and you need to adapt or fail.

    regulator for pony rig ?

Not to hijack.. but i just wanted to point out, as I have Sherwood regs., is the dry bleed system only bleeds like less than a half a breath over the dive, so not really significant.
