Sola Tech 600 vs 1200 Dive Lights

I was in the same boat a short while ago. In the end though, i bought a finn sub smart 1400 short. Finnsub - Finn Light Short I am very happy with this product and am glad I went that route. Andre

    Sidemount Regs

I added the 5th ports to my DSTs, after using them stock for a while. I personally like how the new ports allow me to run the drysuit inflation whip in a cleaner manner, however this upgrade is by no means necessary.

    Tanks

I never tried the 85s, but have been very happy with worthingtons 100s. I've had the cylinders down to 500psi without noticing anything wanting to float up. I'm going to get a pair of 130s for trimix dives; they have fairly similar buoyancy characteristics to the 100s. Andre

update on my setup and first experiences in sidemount

Personally (started SM 4 months ago - 30 or so dives), I find it simple enough. After a few dives it became second nature for me. Andre

boat diving sidemount ... things I learned ...

Yep. I just took up sidemount diving a few months ago. When diving from a boat, I lower my tanks in the water and get rigged up in there. I also leave them in on completion of the dive, to be hauled up once I'm on board. I suspect this could be somewhat of a PITA in a decent sea state. Andre

    Large volume cylinders

Those 119s are a nice size for sure. I'm trying to keep things simple and that means 2 primaries + 2 deco gas cylinders. Anymore, such as the addition of a stage, and things start to get bothersome. I've done many dives with up to 2 stages + 2 deco gas cylinders while on BM, but I feel this...

    Large volume cylinders

I currently use worthington HP 100s as primaries. I'd like to get larger cylinders that I could use for trimix and/or long duration dives. I've already played with loaned Faber HP120s. The added length was not an issue (trimmed out OK) although not as comfy as the 100s. Those Fabers are very...

Can I convert manifolded doubles to sidemount?

This is what I did; split up my worthington HP100s and fiited dive rite left and right hand valves on them. The cylinders trim great.

    cold salt water and sidemount

You would likely be able to loose some lead with the addition of another steel cylinder, if sidemounting. I dive year around in the great lakes region. During the winter, I wear a double layered polypro two-piece and a weazle extreme plus over that, in a fusion drysuit. 12 -14 lbs of lead in...

you also have a wing... Given the redudancy that sidemount configuration provides a diver, both in terms of breathing gas and inflation medium, loosing both the drysuit and the wing at the same time would be an extremely rare occurance - probably shouldn't dive that day! I have not worn...

    cold salt water and sidemount

I've been diving a nomad for a couple of months now in lake ontario (dozen dives or so). I purchased the weight plate and currently have 14lbs in it. I use a whites fusion DS with a double layered polypro underwear + weazle extreme plus. Cylinders are hp100s. This is worst case condition for...

    Big Bay Point Dive Flags

No need to get all worked up. I personally do not use a flag because - ( it has nothing to do with me thinking I'm super tough) - many boaters do not know what said flag looks like or just plain choose to ignore it. - I will often accumulate a significant decompression penalty. The last...
