PERSONNEL is of the utmost importance. You've gotta have the right people. I've been on my team for five years and have seen two team members come and go due to not being to handle some of the strenuous conditions we frequently face. Training is great but real scenarios expose weak divers.

Its very easy to underestimate the seemingly easy dives. Canal dives can be as trecherous as anything we do.
My concolences to the officer's family, friends and colleagues.
I've been a PSD for over 4 years. I'm in SW FLorida. On our team, we train once a month, every month for 10-12 hours a day. Sometimes, training is just classroom sessions or a combo of both. We train both wet AND drysuits.
We average 35-45 call-outs a year. Throw in about 15-20 false alarms...
We've been talking about getting rings for team members and this year we finally organized it. Here's the jeweler's final design per our specs.
I'll wear mine very proudly. Any other dive team's out there have rings? Let's see 'em.
Dive hard,
Augie
I am one of the Lee County Sheriff's Office Underwater Operations Unit divers. We also participate in the pass clean up every year. Its something enjoy doing very much. Look forward to meeting you on the next one.
Here's a link to the story of one of my partners who ended up taking a ride in...
My girlfriend and I are diving in Pompano Beach on Sat. Jan. 24th, 1PM with South Florida Diving HQ. Anyone interested in joining us is welcomed.
We're scheduled to dive the Ancient Mariner wreck.
I like this roll call thing.
hasn't given us too much opportunities for recreational diving. This is the time of year many head for the springs where weather is not as much of a factor.
Let me know when ya come back this way and we'll try then.
In the meantime, Merry Christmas.
showed it to me. It addiotnally has a diver AND a dive flag on the lower left corner of the tag!
I just renewed my tags a few weeks ago but will get it next year.
It looks awesome!
they don't make an external flash that goes with the housing for Stylus 400. I brought my Stylus 400 back to Circuit City for a refund.
Gotta have an external flash. Good luck with your choice.
not because the water is that cold but because we (my police dive team) frequently dive in contaminated water. We have the option to dive dry or wet depnding on the conditions of the water when we arrive on-scene. The Gulf does get chilly in the winter months here (upper 50's-lower 60's) so...
Thinking about going out Saturday, Nov. 8th. with So. Florida Diving HQ on the morning run to dive either the Rodeo 25 or the RSB-1, 125 fsw and 108 fsw respectively.
Let me know if you're interested.
might be an alternative. A tad less crime and traffic congestion although it is a fast growing area. Naples only 60 minutes from Ft. Lauderdale and Ft. Myers only 90 minutes. Right across Alligator Alley. I do most of my personal dives on the east coast. But we do have some good diving here on...
Here's the details so far from media sources...

I posted this THEN realized I knew this young man from a local Scuba Quest dive shop where he worked. He was a friendly and knowledgable about diving.
Condolences to the family and friends.
Monday, October 6th, the 9 AM dive with South Florida HQ to dive the Guy Harvey wreck. Its 145 fsw down so capable divers are welcome. Post or P/M me if you're interested.
to this group but I'm open Oct. 18-19. And I like the Ft. Lauderdale area.
And maybe a Texas-Florida gathering in the springs after the New Years.
My tardy two cents worth.
