    Egypt: diving from shore

The shore diving in Hurghada is pretty poor. The best diving is by day boat. If you are keen on shore diving Dahab is nice.

    car keys + shore diving

In a small Otter box in a pocket. The box is clipped inside the pocket. I don't like having it inside my drysuit in case me or my buddy need it in a hurry.

planning to snorkel in St. Lucia, have equipment questions

A basic kit for snorkeling is pretty cheap so I think you'd be better off buying your own. I prefer open fins and boots so I can walk easily with less risk from treading on anything nasty but st Lucia is pretty sandy so its less of an issue there. We saw turtles at anse chasanet but it always...

    Cave diving near Malaga, Spain?

I believe Gibraltar is littered with wrecks but I've never dived there. There are caves up near Alicante, but I'm not sure about Malaga. Nice old city, though. Sorry not very helpful.

Help breathing off the bottom of my lungs

Getting to the pool and practicing in a zero stress environment sounds like a good idea. Try doing a few skills mid-water, too. That'll make sure your buoyancy control is fine

    Apeks xtx50 dst/ds4

They are pretty similar. The DST 1st stage has a turret. The block the hoses exit from can swivel. It might help certain hose configurations but I went for the DS4 as it is one less o-ring to fail, its slightly shorter, too.

    Malaysia in Jan

I know its the wrong time of year but we are stopping over in Singapore on the way back from Oz. We've got 10 days at the end of Jan/early Feb and thinking of heading into Malaysia for a bit of jungle and bit of beach. Redang looks out due to weather, where else is might have some good fish...

Nitrox class, at home or on liveaboard?

Good plan, nitrox will definitely be useful for a liveaboard trip. There is quite a bit of sitting around between dives on a liveaboard. That'll be a good time to do the Nitrox course as it is pretty much all theory.

    gates drysuit hose

As I understand the Gates valves are just Apeks valves with a different logo on them. Apeks supply two kinds of inflator connector ('CEJN' and 'Seatec'). The CEJN one is slightly larger as it has a bigger bore. The Seatec one is identical to that found on most BCD power inflators. When...

isolator manifold, 300 or 200 bar

Yes. You can fit a 300 bar reg in a 200 (actually 232) bar valve. You can't fit a 200 bar reg in a 300 bar valves. Makes sense, really. Nick
