    Philippines trip in June?

Just bear in mind that in Anilao the diving from shore is mostly macro/muck diving. From boat diving there you can see some coral and fish but I wouldn’t really compare it to Komodo. Also if it’s a quiet time you might pay more for boat dives there - to do it more cheaply you want a full boat...

    Life expectancy of dive computers?

Oceanic atom 2.0 here that has lasted about eight years. The backlight stopped working after about 2 years but everything else has kept on ticking - which is a bit annoying because I’d love a perdix but can’t justify it while this one still works  I haven’t upgraded the firmware from the...

Why a mask with black skirt

My clear skirted mask has been in use for six years now and the yellowing is quite noticeable. I mostly do macro photography diving and I can’t say I’ve had much of a problem seeing my lcd screen. I personally like the open feeling of a clear skirted mask.

    Reverse profiles why 12m?

Thanks for that. I’ve been a little bent (underserved hit - but multi day diving riding the NDL and probably dehydrated) once before so try to err on the cautious side. Good to know it was more a rule of thumb. I would lean towards trust my computer and stay well outside the NDL as it’s set to...

    Reverse profiles why 12m?

Hi all, When diving reverse profiles, the recommendation from DAN et al based on the 1999 conference is for there being no more than a 12m difference between depths is given. I’m wondering if anyone knows why this figure specifically is given? If the first dive is a longer shallow one in say...

    Zipperless hard soled dive boots?

The point of failure with my dive boots seems to be the zipper for me. I do wash them etc. Anyway does anyone know of any good hard soled zipperless dive boots that will last a couple of years / a couple of hundred dives or more? Not necessarily pull-on only - a Velcro strap or buckle or...

    Printable log sheets

Kirk that looks fantastic! I haven’t used a logbook in a while but I really love the color and layout and flourishes here. My only grumble would be it’s not in metric ;) My wife has made her own pages too. Hers is about 60% ways of categorizing animals we see. I particularly liked the mask...

Best short/light travel fin. Apeks RK3, Scubapro Jetfin or Hollis F2?

I own 2 of the 3 fins you’re considering. I pack f2s for travel (photographer also so baggage allowance is stretched) but agree they really do lack bite in current. I’ve dove them on big current sites and phew did they make me work for it. For me personally my jets are too heavy for travel. The...

WARNING: Jolly Dive boat captain by name of Paul sexually harassed me

This is a witch hint you think? Which would mean you believe this by default to be unfounded? Given a real report is many times more likely than a fake one statistically what leads you to the conclusion this is a witch hunt? Unverified? The mods have verified she appears to be who she says she...

Wireless/hoseless or hosed air integrated computer?

Wireless on the wrist with SPG on the left hip. My wife dives a wrist computer only. She nearly lost it a week ago when the strap broke mid dive. If that happened or if it just went boink during a dive it would really mess things up at the moment, midway through a dive trip. She’s thinking of...

WARNING: Jolly Dive boat captain by name of Paul sexually harassed me

Scubaboard, this thread has made me angry. How much energy have people put into trying to discredit/diminish/deny this young woman’s experience? So we have her report. Then a LOT of pointing out she could be fake/a competitor/etc. Mods say they are in touch and she seems to line up with who...

How to Avoid "Guided" Dives? I don't need/want my hand held.

Beating a dead horse, but: We are quite experienced divers and shoot supermacro. If we are doing a boat dive with other divers we always pay for a private guide. There are two reasons for this. Firstly for the kind of subjects we are shooting we rely on a good local spotter. We can find a lot...

Anyone Diving in Bali for the week of 1/6/19 - 1/15/19?

Hi! We are staying in Amed (casa de Amed) because we prefer the accommodation here and the number of restaurants etc and don’t mind the short drive to Tulamben and the macro sites between. Amed is a better base for us because there’s just a bit more to do and some sites at Amed are quite good...

    Easiest reef diving in Indonesia

Thanks heaps for the thoughts, Wisnu. Those are good suggestions. I should have said - we have actually just come from Pemuteran and are diving Amed/Tulamben for the next week. Our friend is joining us in a week’s time and we probably want to go somewhere new with them. Anywhere in Indo that’s...
