    Lost and Found for SoCal

One of my students lost a small diamond ring at the Catalina Dive Park on June 15th. It was a gift from his Grandmother. We were setting up on the benches and wall by the Casino (if I remember correctly it was the second section as you go North). If anyone found it please let me know (it may in...

    Problem with my new mask

Performance of a mask should not depend on depth. Does it feel like the mask is getting tighter on your face as you descend? If so the problem is that your mask is not being equalized. Breath out your nose as you descend.

    Lost and Found for SoCal

Stuff lost at vets frequently ends up far from where it was dropped. The two fins I recently found (posted earlier on this board and still unclaimed - anyone know a Vets diver with the initials of CK?) were found in 50-60' of water northeast of the new monument. They were probably lost in the...

Requirement to "remove and replace" scuba unit and weight system for dry suit cert.

When I drysuit dive off my dinghy I throw my gear in the water then jump in and put on my gear. It's much easier than struggling to get your gear on in a little inflatable.

OW Class at Beach Cities Scuba

Looking back in this thread I see you were diving with the same amount of weight you used in the pool, which I assume was fresh water. Assuming you were properly weighted for the pool, you would be underweighted in ocean, which would show up at the end of the dive. You need to add a 2.5% of...

Going to SoCal, should we dive with locals?

Shore diving in California can get complicated. You really need someone to guide you in and out the first couple of times to get use to reading and dealing with the surf, as well as understanding safe and unsafe conditions. I suggest contacting a local shop and seeing if they have any groups...

Helicopter rescue aboard the Vision - California

I was up in the Channel Islands last week on my own boat and heard the marine radio communications of this incident. The CG consulted with a dive physician during this incident and treated it as a dive accident and were transporting the patient to the UCLA chamber. The captain relayed vital...

Boat cleaning fatality - Fort Myers, Florida

This is generally only an issue with boats hooked up to shore power, so it's an issue in marinas where there are generally rules against swimming and diving, and I would imagine in fresh water divers involved in underwater maintenance check the water before they dive (at least I hope they...

HELP! Lost Waterproof Camera $100 Reward

Your best bet for this is to call the marina that owns the dock you lost your camera off and ask who the divers are that are authorized to clean boats in the harbor. Call one of them and I'd bet they'd be happy to recover it for you. Diving in that area would be restricted.

Out of towner looking for dive op in SoCal

Where in LA will you be? Boats in LA usually go out for the entire day (3 tank dives). That pretty much limits you to beach diving. There's a group that dives off Terranea Resort (Old Marine Land) off Palos Verdes Peninsula Sunday mornings at 8AM, There are groups that dive Saturday morning...
