    New Mayor in Utila

That's too bad! All 'gringos' should stay mute about Honduran politics. We want other countries to stay out of our business, we should respect our Honduran hosts enough to leave them to take care of their business. JMO

Divemaster & IDC interships on Roatan

I most highly recommend Coconut Tree Divers Scuba Diving | PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Center | Roatan ... www.coconuttreedivers.com/ I've been diving with them for 7 years and I've met dozens of their students of all levels. Your son and DIL-to-be will get no finer training anywhere...

    Utila or Roatan

I had wonderful times twice as a single diver at Deep Blue in 2005 and 2007. When I want an all-inclusive resort, I go there. The rest of the time, I dive Roatan backpacker style. I spend so much time there that I'm almost an expat. ;-) I love both...just depends on what you want.

    lionfish rodeo on utila

YUM!!! I hope you will share a few of the details about how Utila did this safely and without harm to the reef. I've been hoping for more events like this one in our fight for some sort of control over these unwelcome newcomers. I know they can be harvested without any harm and they are quite...

    commercial diving women

You go girl! My bff was one of the first women out there in the mid 70s. Her gear weighed more than she did... LOL! It's quite a life for gals or guys. We're old now and she doesn't live in Louisiana any more, I do. Who are you going to study with? Shoot me a pm.

    Black Coral Art in Roatan???

:no:You would be guessing wrong. I can assure you that if you try to get on an airplane with any of the 'illegal' items, they will almost surely be found and they WILL be taken from you at least...beautifully carved conch shells included, I believe. The sellers don't care about customs or what...

Dove a 4-day-old wreck; Reef Gliders boat went down a week ago with divers aboard

Great job! Isn't it wonderful that our dive sites are so close to shore on Roatan? I would hate to have to swim back to shore from any of the sites I dive in Florida. On Roatan I wouldn't consider it too much of a problem. Still, I realize it's not the way the divers or staff wanted to spend...

    Roatan Wedding?

The first thing you need to understand is that Honduras law is not based on English common law. A "wedding" by a priest or pastor is a blessing not a legal event. For a wedding, the clergy does not say "by the power vested in me by the state of xxx" No such power exists in Honduras. In Honduras...

How safe is Roatan right now for a solo female traveler?

No worries amigo; just girl talk. She understands and you don't need to :chuckle: OBTY, GF, if you want to visit the mainland while you are there on the island, tell Gay you want to talk to me. You would be welcome to come up to the mountains to visit our coop and you will be as safe as if you...

How safe is Roatan right now for a solo female traveler?

Impossible! You will no longer be alone 30 seconds after you arrive on their deck and introduce yourself. I'm a 58 year-old female solo diver who has a few hundred dives off Roatan and Utila. In 7 years, through many challenges for Honduras, I have never felt myself in any danger on Roatan...

    Chloroquine

Great...:fear:NOT! Do you suppose that now that it's in the US and moving, somebody will put up the cash to produce a vaccine? How can it be that hard? It's just another virus for pete's sake albeit a very, very nasty one.

    Chloroquine

Thanks lady, just goes with the territory. In five years of coming here for extended periods, I have never been sick but a day or two from unfamiliar water and food. I have been sick since I got here this trip. First some gastro-intestinal thing that was going around, then a upper resp infection...

    Chloroquine

BTW...the symptoms follow the bite by about 5 - 8 days. I was in denial that I would actually get it, but sure 'nuff I woke up one morning realizing that the night before was not just a case of having one too many beers. Right on schedule! That day my fever climbed to almost 104 before I broke...
