Check out Scandi Divers in Puerto Galera. It's a smaller dive resort; offers Nitrox; professional, helpful dive instructors; over 35 dive sites within 10 minutes of the resort (wrecks, caves, muck, coral, etc.); on-site restaurant; rooms for all budgets.
Another place to look into is Scandi Divers or their sister resort, Campbell's Beach - both located in Big La Laguna right outside of Puerto Galera. Great staff, affordable diving packages, rooms to suit your needs, and an onsite restaurant. Plus, you just can't beat the dive sites: fish...
When I first moved to the Philippines (Puerto Galera area) I only drank filtered water, but didn't have a problem brushing my teeth with tap water. I live at the tippy top of a mountain now and drink straight from the tap. Haven't had a problem for over a year. With that being said, I did get...
I know this is a bit late, but for anyone who reads this in the future I recommend PG and the Sabang area, especially Big La Laguna. Don't let the "red light" reputation steer you away because honestly, it's not that bad in most places and Sabang has some lovely restaurants and diving resorts. I...
I haven't ready any field guides, so I can't personally recommend any books, but I believe Amazon is your answer. Assuming you haven't already checked there! Atlantic Fish Guides
Woodsman, do you have the name of the doctor that helped your wife? I live in PG and would love to have a reliable medical source to contact if need be.
Yay! So glad to hear you had a good time. And it sounds like you got to see some pretty amazing stuff. I live in PG so it's always nice to hear people say good things about it. :)
I'll throw in the Philippines as a beautiful place to dive, especially in the Puerto Galera area. And it's just a hop, skip, and a jump from Singapore. If you want to dive and do some beach bumming, I recommend Big La Laguna outside of Sabang. It's far enough away from the "city" life and has...
I second the Philippines in May-June. Puerto Galera has a lot of nice spots to explore, although not so rich in culture. There are a lot of beautiful places to visit though - Tamaraw Falls and Hidden Paradise are a couple of my favorites. There are plenty of dive resorts to choose from; I...
I've heard so many good things about Bohol; it's definitely on my to-visit list. And I was just reading about Lamanoc Point, Anda. Sounds like it has lots of interesting things to explore. A Mystical tour to Lamanoc Point, Anda
I second what Centrals said about staying in the PG area. Some people don't like Sabang because it can be somewhat of a late-night party scene, but Scandi Divers on la Laguna is a good choice if you want to keep your distance.
I can recommend a few dive operators around the Puerto Galera area:
Scandi Divers (La Laguna)
Badladz (PG)
Campbell's Beach Resort (La Laguna)
All have great dive instructors and various courses/packages to choose from.
Hahaha! So true! And this whole time I thought I was buying weak nail polish remover. I painted my toenails with the Coronia brand nail polish over a month ago and it hasn't budged. Plus, I put glitter on top, so imagine how hard it will be to take that off.

Hi Ryan!
I have to give you a shout out because you mentioned living in San Antonio for some time. Me too! Actually, I'm a born and raised Texan - spent many years around San Antonio and lived there for 4 years before moving to the Philippines.
If you're still looking for places to stay, there are tons in Sabang, but I'm most familiar with and can vouch for Scandi Divers/Campbell's Beach Resort on Big La Laguna. Campbell's has private airport transport as well.
