This green opaque band in the water column is persisting. On the Olympic Wreck Sat. afternoon it was pretty much the same thing we have been seeing everywhere. From 15' to nearly 70' it's like a 50/50 solution of murky water and Simple Green cleaner.
Below that band, the wreck was amazing as...
I would avoid the Dive Park on the Labor Day weekend and instead look for an open spot on the Magician, Peace, Spectre, Cea Ray or Pac Star dive boats. Also check the Pacific Wilderness FB page for their local beach dive offerings. They lead local dives in Laguna Beach and Redondo that you could...
Nicole,
You have received so many suggestions it will be difficult to make a decision. Everyone has their favorite. I dive Socal year round, in my opinion nothing beats a 8/7 integrated hood suit from Aqualung, Hollis or Bare. They are much warmer than the torso suit with a separate hooded vest...
I spent the weekend diving on an Ocean Safari trip aboard the Peace Dive boat to San Nicolas Island including the remote pinnacle Begg Rock. San Nic and Begg are in the "remote" category, as in hard to get to with any consistency. I think this trip was my third or fourth attempt at Begg.
Begg...
I was fortunate to receive an invite to join a private party outing this past Sunday on the Giant Stride. With local diving conditions lately being on the green side I jumped at the chance to go, while tempering my expectations and hoping for the best.
Ellen/Elly was our first stop and we...
This past Friday five divers with Capt. Jim at the wheel, headed out on the Giant Stride dive boat to dive the rigs, wrecks and reefs off the Southern California coast. On-board were Barry and Kevin, two decked out tech-divers, accomplished female Orange County free-diver Lauren Renteria and...

Dive Report: Veterans Park, Redondo Beach, CA Sunday 8-21-16 9:00AM
I joined a group of divers
led by Jeff Smith of Pacific Wilderness and dove off Redondo Beach this morning. Surf was 1'; very easy walk in and out entry. The viz was 10' in the shallows and improved to 25+' below 45'. Along...
Richard,
Seems like your wet-suit set up will work well, but you may get cold if the thermocline brings in colder water. Also, it's being in your wet suit all day and doing 4-5 dives that starts to chill you off. Remember to eat allot of calories to keep your furnace stoked. I shed as much of...
Dive Report: Heisler Park, Laguna Beach. 7-31-16 8:00AM
Moe and I swam out to the West Pinnacle and dropped in on the backside. Viz was 10-20', the best I've seen in months. The viz did vary allot, some spots were 10' and some were 20'+. It was definitely a day to be diving given the...
Join us August 26th for the next Open Boat Friday on the Giant Stride dive boat out of San Pedro. We dive the oil rigs, local wrecks and reefs off the Palos Verdes coast. Three dives $125 includes drinks, snacks and fills. Divers should have good buoyancy control and be comfortable in mild...
Yesterday we dove the Olympic II wreck and the offshore oil rigs Eureka and Elly. As our habit we got to the boat early and were underway by 6:15AM. Surface conditions were looking beautiful; golden sunrise, no marine layer and just a gentle surface swell with no wind.
Capt. Jim set the hook...

Big Sur Dive Report, June 22-23, 2016
For the month of June, Truth Aquatics of Santa Barbara offers Big Sur dive trips from their boat(s) which are temporarily relocated to Moro Bay. I recently joined them for a two day, two night trip as a client of the Ocean Safari Dive shop. I boarded the...
Check out the Magician Dive boat out of San Pedro and the Peace Dive Boat out of Ventura. November is one of the best months of the year for diving SoCal. Nov. 8th, 2015 was the day of best viz I had all year shore diving. Great shore diving in Laguna Beach. And, the Dive Park at Catalina is...
