    Any Reason to Stay NAUI?

Agency bashing is specifically prohibited by the rules, so I will say that I really prefer NAUI's more academic orientation. But I have the good fortune to have multiple shops with multiple agencies between me and my dive sites. One thing to consider, there is less classroom work and more...

La Paz diving advice in early February

Just wanted to follow up. I had a superb experience with Deep Baja. There were very windy conditions one day so we had to defer, but it was perfect the day we did go. It's a long drive from San Jose del Cabo to La Paz but worth it, in my opinion. Pavement quality is quite good. The boat was...

San Jose Del Cabo and operator?

I'm back and had a good dive with Dee at Cabo Private Guide » Scuba Diving and Snorkeling in Cabo San Lucas last week. It was disappointing to get a text a few days before that my dive was being pushed back a day, but that seems to be kind of par for the course. Then the night before I got...

San Jose Del Cabo and operator?

Thanks to everyone who responded. It's a bit surprising that there don't seem to be any operators out of SJdC but I guess that is the impact of the cruise traffic and CSL being 3x the population. I missed those later messages and had already booked with Cabo Private Guide on the recommendation...

    Question Alternatives to Regulator Savvy?

Ah, yes, I am scanning through it now. Very nice. The presentation doesn't get in the way of the content. The figures are numbered! Entirely procedural, of course, little theory, but it's supposed to be.

    Question Alternatives to Regulator Savvy?

To be clear, my problem is entirely with the editing, not the content. So many grammatical errors. “O-ring” is replaced with “o’ring” everywhere. @Bigbella really made me laugh about that, so maybe I can get over my persistent eye twitches and ignore the presentation. But the Deep6 manual is...

    Question Alternatives to Regulator Savvy?

I would be keenly interested in a technical book about regulators that has the benefit of professional copyediting. Way down on the list of desires would be metric measurements, but a diver can dream, can't he? Maybe books published in the UK? Just looking for something to familiarize myself...

Amazon eero mesh network & Ubiquiti Point-to-Point Bridge

Ubiquiti is a product for commercial installations, not really for your basic homeowner type. The eeros make it very easy to configure the routers / access points, and do a superb job of switching clients from AP to AP. If it were me I would run plain old Ethernet cable (6e or whatever the...

San Jose Del Cabo and operator?

Hi All, I have a morning to go diving during a family trip, we will be staying in San Jose Del Cabo. Anyone have an operator they like in that area (either SJdC or CSL?). We are going on a day trip to La Paz but I don't have the whole day. But I'm willing to travel to Cabo San Lucas if the...

La Paz diving advice in early February

Is it possibly Manolo at Deep Baja – Whale Watching, Espiritu Santo Island, Baja Tours & Freediving in Mexico ? That's the same phone number as you have listed. Thanks for the rec.

    Commercial jet air we breath

I have a $250 CO2 monitor (so not lab grade but perfectly serviceable for this task) and it consistently reads 1000-1500 parts per million on commercial aircraft. At least on 737, 787, 757, and A350. Compare that with a reading in the 400 ppm range for fresh air. So I am not particularly...

Question Reg service in SF Bay Area?

That's a good point! Two reasons: 1., I need them back within a month because I have an upcoming dive trip. And 2., I do like to support my local dive shops with service revenue. But if nothing pops up you make an excellent suggestion.

Monterey conditions. (let's keep it going )

They did a great job for me. No nitrox, just O2 clean air, but they also sold me a hard-to-find tank boot. If anyone finds a small (5 mm / .25 in) silver colored earring on the grass at the top of San Carlos, please DM me. And if anyone has a place that they like for regulator service, please...

Question Reg service in SF Bay Area?

I have a 2018 Apeks reg that needs service before I am going to take the regulator repair class. I assume almost any shop that services Aqualung / Apeks regs can do it, but do y'all know of who does so in house? My usual shop has gone to mail order, and if it's going to be sent off I figure I...

Monterey conditions. (let's keep it going )

Two night dives yesterday at San Carlos. Vis was 5m (15 ft), a bit better than that at times. Water was 14ºC (57F). Unfortunately, my alternate was free-flowing moderately, so I didn't get to go with the rest of the Dive 'N Trips fun dive crowd. I went over to Monterey Bay Scuba and they did a...

    Preventing webbing from fraying

Yes, one tool will do any coarse soldering you need around the house, as well as prevent fraying from polyester webbing, cord, or rope. If you're feeling crafty it will also burn decorative patterns into wood. Though I think that role has been largely taken by computer-controlled laser rigs.

Wanted A Diver's Guide to Northern California, Bruce Watkins

I don't disagree with your premises, but on the other hand the cheapest copy of his other book on Monterey is going for $50 in good condition. So the Northern California book may be harder to come by than at first thought. 95% is gone since 2008...

DAN and AIG travel insurance absurd response ; Sinking boat not covered!

The weird thing about that not typically being covered is the absolute rarity of the event. Obviously the traveler doesn't have any way of knowing whether a commercial boat is going to sink, and it happens on what, one in a million trips? Should add at most a penny to a policy. I really hate it...

    Info Aqualung Financial Troubles

Yes, we don't know other than there will be some kind of change. Private equity does not take over a company in order to dump a bunch of money in and nurse it back to health.
