    Traveling to Indonesia

Yes, there is some risk. We emailed the boat we were on and asked if they recommended spending a night in Sorong. They said plenty of people were flying in the morning of departure. Based on their advice and the fact that it was a non-stop from Jakarta we decided the risk was acceptable. When...

    Traveling to Indonesia

We did a Raja Ampat trip from the US East coast in late 2022. Outbound we flew IAD-NRT-CGK on ANA. Return was CGK-SIN-EWR on Singapore Airlines (we used points/miles, hence the different routings). On the outbound leg we spent a few nights in Jakarta before catching a Garuda flight to Sorong...

    Zoop Novo Battery Replacement

I did do some searching, couldn't find any recommendations about where to get replacement o-rings.

    Zoop Novo Battery Replacement

I found one LDS that will do the replacement. The problem is it's $55 per computer. I've replaced a Zoop Novo battery before (without replacing the o-ring) and the job took me ~3 minutes and a $4 watch battery. I'm willing to pay a bit extra to get a new o-ring. Paying almost 20% of the price...

    Zoop Novo Battery Replacement

Is there any good place to get a replacement o-ring for a Suunto Zoop Novo in the US? I know I can just replace the battery and probably get away with it but I'd feel more comfortable replacing the o-ring as well. Unfortunately Suunto doesn't sell battery replacement kids and I can't get a...

Bareboat Sail Charters with compressor in the Bahamas?

I've gotten curious and looked into this a couple of times myself. As far as I can tell the answer is no, no bareboat operations have boats with compressors on them.

Juliet Liveaboard - We are booked this summer.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip! My wife & I did our fourth trip with the Juliet over Christmas of 2019, they are still a really good operation.

    Juliet Liveaboard

More limited than on other boats. The crew will do what they can to help you out but she is a fairly compact boat. There's no dedicated camera room or table or anything like that.

    Liveaboard Crew Christmas Gift

    Thanks, I'll probably do that.

    Liveaboard Crew Christmas Gift

I hesitate to say because someone working for the boat posts on ScubaBoard and I'd like to keep it a surprise.

    Liveaboard Crew Christmas Gift

My wife and I are going to be on a liveaboard trip over Christmas this year. I would like to bring some sort of token of appreciation for the crew to thank them for working over the holidays. Don't worry, we'll give them a good tip at the end of the trip but I'm trying to think of something...

Juliet Liveaboard to Bahamas Nov 2-8

I had a similar conversation with one of the Juliet's captains a few years ago. He said that the boat really needs 20+ knots of wind for sailing to be an efficient way to get around. She also doesn't sail very well close-hauled and the possibility of an accidental jibe makes it scary to take her...

    Liveaboard in Indonesia

You will love the Blue Manta. My wife and I went to Komodo with them, it was by far the nicest liveaboard boat I've ever seen.

What was your favourite liveaboard ever?

The T&C Explorer looked like it had pretty nice cabins. The T&C Aggressor's cabins were nothing special, but if you're spending a bunch of time there you're doing a liveaboard wrong anyways.

What was your favourite liveaboard ever?

I've enjoyed every liveaboard trip that I've been on, but I think that the T&C Aggressor earns the title of "favorite." The diving off of that boat is extremely fun and relaxing. The water was warm enough that I didn't bother with a wetsuit except on night dives. It was great being able to just...

Any general tips for first time liveaboard trip?

I haven't done the Explorer boat, we did the T&C Aggressor back in the summer and had a blast. The Turks and Caicos are a *great* diving destination. Little or no current, lots of walls, we saw sharks and turtles on almost every dive. The style of diving you do there is also very relaxing. Set...

Turks & Caicos - Aggressor II cabin question

This probably varies based on the time of year, but I had zero sea-sickness issues on the T&C Aggressor and neither did anyone else that I know of on our trip. The boat usually stays on the sheltered, leeward side of the islands and there are no big crossings or passages that it had to make.

    Live aboard for nondiving spouse?

We just got back from a T&C Aggressor trip. It was fantastic, but it would be a terrible choice if you have a non-diving spouse. 5 dives per day, no shore excursions, and the boat generally moored in water that was too deep for good snorkeling.

Palau Aggressor II vs. Mermaid II (Komodo) in September - First liveaboard

Komodo is certainly amazing. My wife had about 70 dives when we went there, with a good guide we didn't find that the currents were unsafe. Just pay attention during briefings and follow your dive guide. If you're taking a boat that leaves from Bali (Mermaid) then it's relatively easy to get...

    Bucket List Trip

+1 to everyone who's recommending Komodo for a bucket list trip. My wife and I were there this past summer and it blows away anything we've seen in the Caribbean. IMO it also put the northern Red Sea to shame. Some of the other passengers on our boat said that Raja Ampat is even more impressive...
