Compressor diving // BBC Human Planet

Yes! I just saw this episode of Human Planet myself. (looks amazing on blu-ray, by the way). That segment on the surface-supplied divers blew my mind. The divers themselves were quite skilled and agile in the water, wearing shorts and t-shirts and seemingly home-made fins (pieces of...

    Olympus 770SW Review

Just thought I'd add a quick story: Yesterday I went diving out at Catalina and almost lost my Olympus 770! I had it clipped to my BC and wanted to get it unclipped, but I couldn't manage to get the strap out of the clip, so I just left it. A few minutes later I went to grab for it again...

    Olympus 770SW Review

nope I don't have a housing for the camera. In fact the housing is actually pretty hard to find now that olympus has stopped making them. I'd like to get one eventually, though. I do, however, use a silicone "skin", which helps prevent scratching. I've been very happy wtb the 770, both for...

    Olympus 770SW Review

great shots nemrod! Good thing you got the PT-035 housing when you did. Olympus no longer stocks it, according to their website. . . and I haven't found any seller online (outside of ebay) that has them in stock any more. The ebay ones I've seen are going for more than the $300 MSRP...

    Olympus 770SW Review

Hey all, just more fyi on the 770: I took it kayaking/fishing/snorkeling in Baja last week, and it held up great! I did have an accidental shock test on it: When walking around on the rocks of a small island in Bahia de Los Angeles, I slipped and started to fall forward. I stopped myself by...

    Olympus 770SW Review

FYI: The strobe on the 770 works really well on macro shots underwater. But anything farther than a foot or two from the camera won't get the flash at all. I'm finding another handy use for the 770 next week: Kayaking in the sea of cortez!

    Diving near Ft. Lauderdale

Hello, I will be in Ft. Lauderdale in late May for a conference, and wanted to know what the locals think is the best diving one can do nearby. I'm thinking of doing just a single 2 tank dive excursion, and would prefer something relatively close to the Greater Fort Lauderdale-Broward County...

    Olympus 770SW Review

Interesting news about the 1030 SW! On the Olympus website, the estimated retail price of the 1030 is only $50 higher than the 770! Wouldn't you know it: as soon as I buy one thing, the next better model comes out! :biggrin2: The 10 MP vs. 7 is a significant boost, and the decision to go...

    Olympus 770SW Review

So I'm back from my trip. Check out some of pics I took in New Zealand. I did two dives at the Poor Knights Islands off the north island there. The 770 is only rated to 10 meters without a housing, and since the first dive we'd be down around 25 meters, I only took it on the second dive. I...

    Olympus 770SW Review

For those still interested in the Olympus 770 Stylus SW: Circuit City has them on sale right now for $279.99 ($70 cheaper than the typical retail price of $349.99). I had BestBuy giftcards from Christmas, so I printed out the Circuit City price (search for the Olympus 770 on Circuit City.com)...

    My first shark bite!!

nice tale! I'm a volunteer diver at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, and have been bit a couple times by our leopard sharks and once by our zebra shark. Never out of malice, of course, just because it was feeding time and the shark would miss the piece of squid I was handing him and get...

Black Sea Bass @ La Jolla Cove

For anyone who dives La Jolla Cove, just an FYI: the black sea bass are still there, at the closest yellow buoy, as of this past Sunday (Sep 30) morning. My sister and I dropped down to ~33 ft depth at the buoy, and within 30 seconds we saw 4 of them. Here's some low-quality video I took of...

    Good diving in Acapulco?

I'm going to a conference in Acapulco at the end of May, and plan to go diving for a half-day. Does anyone have any recommendations or warnings regarding diving in Acapulco? I don't hear much about Acapulco in the diving world, so just thought I'd put out some feelers. Thanks!
