    Cruises and scuba question

I typically book through the cruise line. My main reason is that if your dive boat has trouble and gets back late the ship will wait for your group, or arrange for you to meet back up with the ship. If you are on your own, and miss the ship, it is up to you to get to the next port, or find a...

    Review of Stingray + Housing/Sony CX520

Most of the folks that say you don't need MWB have never had it. Once you use it you understand how much of a difference it makes, and editing is much easier too. Sounds like a great combo you have. I'm happy with my old A1U and Amphibico housing, but maybe someday..... Looking forward to...

First timer, considering starting with Sony A1U and Equinox HD6 from B&H

I use the A1U in an amphibico housing, and it serves me quite well. Make sure that you have access to the "assigned" button with the housing which will allow you to white balance while diving. The white balance feature is the big advantage of the A1U over the HC1 and other models. If the...

Video Software Editing vs Filters when Recording

I always white balance, and seldom do any color correction in Vegas. To me, getting the color corrected either by white balance, or correcting during editing is so important. I hate watching blue or green video, when I know that is not what it looked like to the diver. I want to feel like I'm...

    Heavy Housing

I can see where the bottles should work and be a quck fix, but I don't think the foam provides you any benefit, and actually adds weight which reduces the amount of gained buoyancy. This is just my guess, not knowing the compressive strength of the foam you are using. The reason most of us are...

    Heavy Housing

Here was the thread where I built my upper float if anyone is interested. http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/underwater-videography/197243-my-bouyancy-solution.html The lower one is just made from black plastic pipe I picked up at ACE Hardware. I use velcro to secure all the floats to the...

    Heavy Housing

I have the same lights and use them with an amphibico housing and the lights make it really heavy in the water. I made a foam float and covered it in fiberglass, which attaches to the top of the housing, and a "u" shaped float from 1-1/2" black plastic pipe that fits under the battery pods...

Video Lite: is it a must..??

Most of my video has been done without lights, with some as deep as 110 ft. Conditions will dictate if you need lights or not. Generally when diving clear blue water (Bahamas, Bonaire, Cozumel, Roatan) the lights are more trouble than they are worth. Also, your budget will probably be a...

The HDR HC9 arrived - white balance question.

With my setup (Sony A1U in Amphibico housing), I usually cannot get my white balance to lock if I don't use my red filter. With the red filter I can white balance to about 100 ft when diving in clear blue water on a sunny day.

    Basic Suggestions for better video

We all post our videos and ask for suggestions, but if you are like me you don't really want to put down someone elses hard work, especially when you know you have lots to improve in your own (my own) videos. But I though it might be good to post some our biggest pet peeves, and these are not...

What high def video equipment would you buy with a +/- $10K budget?

DavidVik- Some of the shots look like you have some vignetting. It appears the lens your are using will not allow full zoom. Is this the Fathom 90 lens? Nice video.

Amphibico Dive Buddy SE & Sony Handycam...Help please

Sony A1U might fit, and it has Lanc, "D shaped" AV/out, and Microphone connections. At B and H, looks like it is right at $2000 after a $500 rebate... I use this in my EVO pro which gives me MWB also. I've found this to be a very nice setup.

What high def video equipment would you buy with a +/- $10K budget?

I have the Sony A1U in the Amphibico EVO housing, and never considered it a "big rig" compared to many I've seen. Is the HC-9 in a housing really that much smaller? Now the Phenom is what I consider a Big Rig... Or is the A1U that you are referring to not the Sony A1U?

Roger- Were you using lights, or all natural light? Wonderful color. Were you able to MWB, or did you need to do any color correction in post production. You did an outstanding job, and I really like your music selections. Care to share the name of any of those? I dread figuring out which...
