I'm glad this thread is still active after almost 5 years. To ask a specific question for clarification: could I wear a Thermalution system -- like the Compact Dive Series -- on a ski trip without burning myself or damaging the system? @Deep South Divers, you seem to suggest that earlier in this...
Just got my first BCD-integrated octo. Playing with it on land, I orally inflated and, while it did work, I got at least some of my exhaled air out the exhaust intead of into my wing. I realize there are design limitations due to the multi-function aspect of this piece of gear, so is this...
I was inspired by this project using the Oxy ultralight and the DSS Tropical wing. In fact here's the video that Ronscuba posted many years back:
...so I went out and purchased the Mares XR to use with my DSS Torus 26. The tank bands fit through the openings pretty well (a little tight), but...
... and I'm right in between you guys ... going in December and staying at Lion's Dive. I'll be on their boat every morning but looking for someone to go shorediving with in the afternoon. So the bar is a good place to troll for a dive buddy?
I've struggled with this myself on occasion, much less so since I took the Rescue class and learned to look out for my fellow diver and in general to be more situationally aware underwater. I've also found that one trick is to concentrate on something small.... go look close up at the wall/reef...
I took the course and got a lot out of it. Although I would still leave actual emergency decisions and execution to the DM on any group dive, it is nice to know I could be of assistance if needed... and even more so when a buddy and I are the only ones in sight.
But what I really got from it...
Posting from work - I'll check the cards again when I get home, but I do not recall an expiration date.
As far as references go, I sold a set of fins here on Scubaboard once, that's about it. What's the best way normally to protect both parties? (Guess we could continue this via PM if you're...
I won these gift cards in a contest online and -- living in Southern CA myself -- do not see myself getting to use them any time soon. I will let them go for 110 bucks, which -- if I'm correct -- is $20 off their value based on current trip rates at Jupiter Dive Center. I will mail them to you...
My trip went really well, and I got in two good days of diving at the Catalinas. Here's the description and video from my Vimeo page:
Islas Santa Catalina
Guanacaste, Costa Rica
The Catalinas lie just off Costa Ricas NW Pacific coast. While the visibility isnt what youd find in the...
It's a Sony HC-3 (old-school HDV camera) in a SeaTool housing. Yeah, the eel was pretty scary-looking but apparently pretty harmless, very used to being fed by dive operators.
Diving with American Dream II and Parrot Island:
2308241
Two days of great diving off the Fort Lauderdale, FL coast on wrecks and reefs...
The first day, I went out on the American Dream II out of Ft. Lauderdale (ScubaFortLauderdale.com), and we went to two sites: (1) The Mercy Jésus...
Diver, do not for a minute think that I am amused -- like some of the less responsible and/or less experienced divers in our group -- by what you are doing to that Pufferfish. You are causing it trauma and maybe even jeopardizing its life. I will aim away and even turn my camera off before...
Yeah, I pretty much figured. If I expect it to last like a pro piece of gear, I guess I should treat it more like one... even if it is a 10 buck light.
I thought I was pretty clever with my Princeton Tec Amp 1.0 backup light. $10, easy to stow, and nice and bright when I needed it. Eventually, though, it flooded and the corrosion is pretty much irreversible.
Was I expecting too much? Or can these cheapie lights be a viable backup if you...
I like it backmounted and out of the way. I can still reach the valve. But I do prefer the 13's size to a 6.
Hey BikerManiac, you're using zipties to attach your counterweights? I'd consider going with a single XS Scuba weight pocket. It's just neater - and easier to remove the weight(s) for...
