We (my 2 dive buds & our wives) just returned from Utila 3 weeks ago. Diving was great for 4 days till a tropical low moved in & they moved our boats to a safe marina. Dives were in the $30-40 range/tank. We had a large dive boat all to ourselves since the other group was in training on the other boat. The wives never got bored. They rode horses, did their photography, and did the deprivation tank thing. We stayed at Utila Lodge (no bugs since it's out over the docks) and did our diving with Bay Island College of Diving. We were the old folks there since most of the BICD people were very young but full of energy. We traveled the more expensive route via Roatan then a twin prop plane to Utila. It's much cheaper to fly to San Pedro Sula, shuttle to La Ceiba, & ferry over to Utila. We paid $100/night for our rooms and ate breakfast at the lodge then ate a some of the many small restaurants around town. It's a very small but quirky village with only a few cars. You can walk anywhere or take a tuk-tuk taxi for 20 lmps. We all prefered it over the hustle/bustle of Roatan.

"Ambergris Caye on Belize was pretty reasonable. 2 tank dive for $100 if you are going to the nearby reef."

Salt, who were you diving with for that price or are you including nitrox charges?

2 tanks at the dive ops I'm familiar with are more in the range of $80 and if doing a block of dives, one can often arrange a discount from there.
