Not quite sure why he dropped his gear (assuming his BCD with tank?) rather than putting air on the BCD, floating & finning towards the island, which sounds to me to be safer than swimming without gear with possibility of passing out & drown before getting to the island.

Probably dropped it because the drag of the gear in the current would not allow him to get to land. It is a bold move and, I dare say, not taught in SCUBA classes anymore.

My prayers are with the rest of the divers.

They may yet be found or is the water too cold for them to have survived this long? :(

Could still be alive but doubt if the can do tonite. The Humbolt doesn't get to Malpelo but the water can be cold sometimes.
Just found 2 miore

Found two of them alive at 4 pm

Karen, by your last 2 posts, do you mean that all four have been found or just the two?

So wonderful they are alive.

Two have been targetted yesterday afternoon (local time) by a US research plane sent from Costa Rica, they were located at 39 nautical miles S-E of the island.

The ARC Punta Ardita (colombian military vessel) rescued them.

Still searching for the 2 missing ...
