SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Assemblymember Harkey:

As an active SCUBA diver, I request your vote to enable AB 634 to become law. This bill frees the State of California, counties, cities, harbor districts and other government entities from liability for injuries suffered by persons diving on artificial reefs. SCUBA diving is recognized as an inherently dangerous activity and divers are accustomed to signing liability waivers for every phase of diving. Divers are taught that they are ultimately responsible for their own safety.

This bill will allow the State and local governments to participate in establishing more artificial reefs, which provide recreational opportunities for divers, enhance habitat for marine life, and benefit economically from increased diving activity.

Thank you for authoring this important legislation to assist in revitalizing CaliforniaÃÔ ports, coastal economy and the ocean environment.

Sincerely,
