I just purchased a new laptop with a 64 bit system and Windows Vista. Is there a software download for the Atmos 2? How do I migrate my data from the old system to the new one?

Windows 32-bit apps should work fine on the Windows 64-bit OS. The drivers will likely NOT work because of increased signing requirements. You can always try and the OS will either allow the drivers or not. Afterwards, there will be a folder for 32-bit-on-64-bit applications (Program Files x32 I believe, it's been a while since I removed the 64-bit OS from my laptop due to driver problems)...

OK, I will see if I can try that. What you said is a bit over my head. I have a friend that is computer geek and I will see if he can help me do what you said.

I seemed to have been able to download the program from the Aeris website, but when I try to download dives from the Atmos 2 to my laptop, it says it cannot make a connection. At one point windows said it recognized new hardware and would install the driver--this was after I downloaded from Aeries. Any thoughts on how to make it connect and download?

Hmm... I know with my VT3 (Oceanic - which is the same computer as the Elite T3) and Vista 32-bit, the first version of the driver had connection issues. The second release of the driver worked much better. Do you set the computer in computer mode and does the computer start the countdown and if so, does the computer light all LED segments when you try to connect on the PC side?

I set the dive computer into PC mode. Then connect as I have done on the old laptop and it says nothing found on comm1. Then I click start connection and get the same message. The laptop can't find the computer. Any thoughts?

Hmm. Is the port actually COM1 or should it be another port? I know that OceanLog uses the registry to find the USB port instead of WMI (part of the reason is that it was written in VisualBasic pre .NET). Can you look in the device manager for the USB serial bridge and determine the COM port to see if it's actually another port.

First make sure you have the 64 bit driver installed.
You can download it here: Aeris s/w support page

To move the data (your logbook) to the new machine,
You need to copy the database file to the new machine.
I use a flash memory thumb drive to do this.

To move the logbook data you
first have to locate the existing logbook (database file).
The easiest way to do this is to bring up the ACI program on your old machine.
Then on the top bar click [Logbook] then select [Open Log] from the drop down
menu.
This will bring up a browser type window and you should see 1 or more
.dlg files. These are the database files. 1 of those is your current logbook.
You can then right click on the .dlg file and select [Copy] and
then switch to an exporer window with your thumb drive
and right click and paste it to the thumb drive.

Move the thumb drive to the new machine.
Bring up an explorer window on the thumb drive and right click and copy
the .dlg file from the thumb drive.
Then bring up ACI on the new machine
and once again click [Logbook] and [Open Log] when that browser comes up
you should now be able to right click and paste the .dlg file into the browser
window.

When using Vista be very careful when turning UAC on/off. A side effect of
this is how Vista deals with the "program store". This matters to programs like
ACI that want to write their files to the /program files/.... area.
When UAC is enabled, VISTA will trick the application into writing under
the users home directory but when UAC is disabled, the application will
write directly to the /program files/.... area.

What this means is that if you use ACI for a while and then change your UAC
setting, you will no longer be able to access your logbook.

Just something to keep in mind.

The cut/paste method of moving the .dlg file will work no matter which way you
you set UAC.

Also, something to keep in mind is that ACI & Oceanlog have no merge or
import capabilities.
What this means is the software can only add new dives to the existing
database. You cannot pull dives from one database into another database.
This means that if you have 2 machines like say a desktop and a laptop,
you must always remember to copy the latest database file to the desired
machine before you make any changes or add any new dives.
If you don't, there is no way to get the updates/changes/modifications made
to one logbook/database to another database.

Always keep this in mind.
