Just back on Monday from ten fabulous days in Cozumel with my wife and a couple other dive buddies. Stayed with Hotel Cozumel and diving with Dive Paradise.

We had a great time but the currents on the reefs were doing odd things. Something to do with the changing water temperatures. Kind of like the weather when hot and cold fronts meet. End result was some powerful down drafts on some of the walls. Word is a couple divers were lost during the week prior to our arrival.

We didn't have any major problems with the currents on our dives but the dive masters were being pretty conservative. Some quickly changing currents resulted in some quick turn-arounds and reduced visablity but there was still plenty to see and water temp was 81 degrees.

Plenty to see: two close encounters with spotted eagle rays, lots of hawksbill turtles, one loggerhead turtle, plenty of eels and the regular assortment of reef fish. Splendid toadfish seemed to be everywhere. On one dive we found four of them within a 15 foot radius. If you are looking for sea horses you may be disappointed. Strong currents have made them hard to find.

Weather was perfect. Lots of sun. Some days of partial clouds but we were never uncomfortable.

Love the staff and service at Hotel Cozumel but as usual the food left a bit to be desired. However, it was expected and with the affordable cost of their all-inclusive our crew made it pay off with the bar tab alone. Also encouraged us to take several short walks into town for food and drink.

Wet Wendy's: Fun staff and incredible drinks. If you haven't tried the cucumber jalopeno margarita you are missing out.

La Mission: Go to the one back away from the beach on 55 Ave Sur. It really was a mission. Great place to wander around and great food.

Prima: Itallian food. I had the seared tuna steak. Fabulous. Others had alfredo and half a lobster big enough to be a full lobster at other restaurants. I am told the lobster ravioli is not to be missed either. Have to save that for the next trip.
