Trolon, thanks for the feedback. I ended up going with a used (but like new) Zodiac Pro 9 man with a fiberglass hull. The aluminum RHIB's are nice but couldn't find any used and the prices for a new Polaris or AB were beyond my budget.

Chuck, plenty of room on the new boat for life jackets so I never leave home without them now. My buddy seemed to think the USCG granted exceptions for life jackets if all passengers were wearing exposure suits. I can't find any sources for this and don't want to find out the hard way. I've read a few power boating books cover to cover and do plan to take a USCG class.
