In reef keeping a few people who want to propagate sponges in their systems have put them in a blender and poured them back into their reef to spread around.

I did that inadvertantly once. Was using a jury-rigged windshield pump to eliminate nuisance Xenia. Got a piece of sponge in the intake and created a new nuisance. Tank took months to recover.
