My guess is that you read a re-post about the oily substance reported Sunday in the water 460 miles east of Bonaire near Chaguaramas, Trinidad. The source and extent of that spill haven't been identified yet.

Oil spill cleanup underway at Chaguaramas

There was an oil spill in Trinidad, the problem is that oil will end up coming to bonaire. The same thing happened earlier this year.

This is a possibility, but not a certainty. Trinidad has suffered larger oil spills than either of those this year that never reached Bonaire's shores. One example is the 7000 barrel Petrotrin spill in December 2013.

Here's a current article addressing the topic. (It's in Dutch, so you might need help from Google Translate if your browser doesn't do it automatically for you.)

Key points in the article:
1) The spill is currently contained in the bay at Chaguaramas.
2) Computer models indicate that current weather and ocean currents wouldn't carry the spill to Bonaire anyway.
