There are lots of reasons I don't like Liat, specifically their "leave island at ANY time" philosophy, but there's a far worse offense that we encountered.

While in Dominica (which was awesome, and we'll recap in another thread), Liat canceled my mother's flight and rescheduled her for another flight which would have meant missing her connection to Jet Blue. So she called to change it and they charged a change fee. Whatever, she decided to fight that later. She gave them her VISA card number over the phone and they insisted that card number didn't exist, even though she had used the very same card in the gift shop the day before and then again five days later when she checked out. So she used her emergency Mastercard which she had not used in months and they asked for the CCV code.

When she got home she got a call from her credit card company regarding suspected fraudulent charges. It had been used to make purchases in London. Considering she had not used that card in months, there's a very strong probability that the local agent she spoke with is involved in a credit card scam. Either that, or the system LIAT uses to verify credit card numbers is so insecure that any hacker can crack it. But we suspect the former.

She is following up with her credit card company and LIAT, but given LIAT's record of customer service, we doubt anything will happen.

I just wanted to warn you to be very careful with LIAT and perhaps to only use their main phone number when making changes to your reservation. Frankly, I would avoid them completely.
