it started on sat. , went to Venice and did a two tank, one was a shark teeth hunt. Then sun. morning we headed to Pompano Bch. where we did another two tank...one was on the Capt. Dan, where the current was screamin but had great vis once we got down to the wreck. Then we did a drift dive, imagine how far we travelled, about 21/2 to 3 miles! Still it was a wonderful day.Ok, then came sun. nite, a drift dive and it was also just as good... btw, i love night dives!
i wanted to do the Zoo as well but everyone looked at me and yelled"NEXT WEEKEND>>>ALRIGHT ALREADY!" so i suppose i'll have to wait(party poopers):devious:

Did a two tank today on the Fathoms O Fun out of the Hillsboro Marina. Weather cooperated, and we also met a couple of gents from Nottingham who were over on holiday.

First dive was down to the Sea Emperor. It's a barge that was sunk with a load of 4' concrete culvert pipe, but spilled the load on the way down. 72' to the sand - 56' to the deck. The hollowed out hull and pipes make a great home for a multitude of sea life. The site used to be a favored feeding place for divers, but that activity has been since been made illegal. But the fish are still conditioned to come around when boats and divers appear. I had a large ray come up close and brush against me looking for food, and the large moray that lives there stayed hidden inside the hull until the end of the dive. I didn't see any of the giant grouper that live here this time either, though a couple of divers reported seeing one of them hovering off in the distance. A couple of large barracude escorted us through most of our tour. But my cheapie camera flash stopped working after just 5 shots. ;-0 Vis was 40-50 feet, bottom temp was 84°(!) and there was slight current.

Second dive was to the Opal Towers, a second line reef north of the Hillsboro Inlet. Easy drift dive, with a max of 42' - slight current. Tons of life, and I saw mt first shrimp. And after a discussion from here about identifying fish, I also recogized a Sea Robin. We saw some lobster traps for the first time, dropped haphazardly across the reef. No lobster in them, but a few larger parrot fish and a puffer were inside. These were much different from the traps I've seen up north - much bigger, and no nettting "trap" that lobsters walk into - just a cut open square with an extension going into the trap. Drama arose when our dive flag got tangled on the surface with the buoy line from another set of traps. I was afraid I'd have to surface to do it, but ended up pulling the who mess to the bottom. Halfway down the bleach bottle floats from the traps let go and the flag got free.

We practiced OOA drills, and swimming with our octopus's deployed to test them.

All in all, a great day. :D

..my first open water drysuit dive yesterday (Labor Day).

Veeery strange, and pretty different from the pool

It was quite a challenge... especially since I used my buddy's floppy fins and a weight belt.

I was exceptionally surprised to find out that I needed less weight with the drysuit than the wetsuit.

It wasn't a Labour Day dive....yesterday was just another day out here.....but I did a two tank dive in Chakanaub (I always spell that wrong, forgive me please...my log's not handy) and Paradise Reef.

It was beautiful as usual.

Peace,
Cathie

Started things off Friday with a nightdive on the wreck of the Farewall - tons of fish. Saturday two dives at Mamanse Harbour through the rock formations, and Monday back to the Farewall - only this time I found my dive knife that I lost almost 2 months ago! I was pretty happy after that :) :) :)

Did my final OW dive on Saturday and then did two leisure dives around the quarry. Going to get hoods and gloves this week..that thermocline is a #^%#. I think we are taken Friday off to go back and practice, practice, and practice.

My GF thinks I'm nuts, but its addicting. We did the giant stride from the dock which sure beats doing it in a pool....I could do that all day..too much fun.

I think this quarry with its low viz and temps are really going to prepare us for ocean diving...I dont think we are going to know how to react without having to wear a 7 mil and being able to see more than 20 ft.

We are going to Bonaire in Nov and probably Bonne Terre in January. We should be AOW before we go in November.

Ok, I answered the question and then went on a tangent. Hey, its exciting stuff.

Roubidoux spring in Missouri. Did 2 dives Sunday and three on Monday. Sunday dives were to get oriented to the system and we didn't do anything real ambitious. Monday started with an aborted dive due to a primary light failure (mine). Swapped lights, modified dive plan and a great dive. The last dive was in the cavern zone with my son. This is a great cave that will see lots of me from now on.

the first on the Sea Tiger, which I was told was a Japanese fishing boat - 100+ foot vis - very nice. Did not get to see the whale shark that was spotted there the previous week.

Second dive was along some pipe they have named "Kewalo Pipe" for lack of a better name, I guess (Kewalo is the name of the harbor about 5 minutes away) 50 - 55 foot vis - saw a frogfish for the first time and a couple of HUGE conch shells.

Had an excellent time. :)

I didn't get to dive on Labor day, but I did go diving Saturday and Sunday. I'm lucky enough to live within an hour of Lake Wazee in Black River Falls, WI - if you've never heard of it, it's an old open pit iron mine, 350 feet deep and unbelievable clarity year round. Awesome cliffs, great fish cribs and wildlife, gorgeous underwater forest...the place rocks =) So I got enough diving in to keep me satisfied until the next club dive this Thursday :)
