Hey with all the talk on the board about Salvo recently I decided to glance at their site... I'm buying my mom a surprise BCD as she just started diving and seems really into it. I figure it's only fair if i'm going to buy her a new BCD I deserve one too. Long story short has anyone tried this set up.. it looks pretty good and seems to be what i need at the moment and the setup can be upgraded (why didn't i listen last year when i spent 500$ on a jacket style?)

I havn't dived the Agir though I know a few other people on this board do and enjoy them. I've held one in my hands. It looks like a good rig.

You can see some pics and opinions here:

Salvo also sells Golem products. If you go that route, I would suggest getting them straight from the company since Salvo has a substantial markup on them.

The differences are minimal:

1. Agir knife is "tonto" style with a sharp point. Golem knife is blunt.

2. Agir comes with a metal STA... I don't know what brand STA Salvo sells them with. If its this one http://www.salvodiving.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=1318 then you may not like the plastic buckles. Stainless steel is the way to go.

3. IMHO, the Golem wing is a little tougher. Its tougher than anything though. Its also about $75 cheaper. http://golemgear.com/pc-165-2-golem-35-lbs-ss-combo.aspx some pics here: http://pbase.com/jarrett/watersports

The reason I am posting the comparison is because I recently had to research both systems and started at the Salvo page.

Whichever one you choose you will be well off. The Agir wing felt alot like a Halcyon wing to me and I know both are strong players in this market.

Not having first hand experience with the Agir wing, we chose to carry Oxycheq. I'm sure the wing is fine, I just felt comfortable dealing with a product we know. Let us know what you think, if you pick one up.

No complaints, here. I like mine just fine. I think that you will be very happy with it.

We just got a new rig in and it came with a two piece STA. We called Salvo and were told that they aren't offering the one piece any longer. I'm not positive, but I think this STA has the standard delrin camband buckles. I agree with V... the SS buckles are nice.

That Golem rig is pretty hard to beat right now. Plus, they are practically giving them away. Definitely a best buy. Now, I gotta come up with an excuse to get one.

I guess just a standard weight belt is what you wear with a BP/W

Just got an e-mail from them... it's being shipped out thursday.. any good websites or threads that explain the best way to adjust the webbing? Too bad i just had surgery so no testing it out for another couple months

Standard weight belt, if needed.

One can also use things like cam strap weight pouches, plates of different weights, STAs of different weights, or even quick release weight pockets to make up the total required weight and adjust for trim. It can get somewhat involved depending on one's particular needs and/or preferences.

Here's some stuff to keep you busy...

Seeing as your in montreal you may find it necessary to use a weightbelt.

Before I switched I was using 8 lbs in a belt. Afterwards I only needed the backplate(approx 5-6) in the same 3mm setup.. likely due to loss of buoyant padding.

I added a Halcyon STA (approx 1.5 lb) and upgraded to a 5/4mm fullsuit and I am still slightly negative on an empty tank.

You can play around with different weight options, plates, STA's, or just keep it on the belt if thats what you like. Just make sure if you do choose non-ditchable weight that you are able to swim the rig up when the tank is full and your wetsuit is compressed (assuming BC failure).

Ive been diving my Agir wing from Salvo since early December. First the plate is a replica of an H plate. Very good quality , only one problem with it , i had to gring the slots in the plate for the cam bands , not used bet very sharp. The wing is very comparable to an H wing in quality . Webbing is the same an the H stuff except for the crotch strap. From my experiance with Salvo and the products they sell, you cant go wrong.
