Storing for about 2-3 weeks at a time between dives...

Store Aluminum tanks either full or at or below ~100 psi

For long term storage, use the same parameters.

The culprit is the burst disk/tank response to fire here. At <100 psi the disk retainer will melt and vent the tank before the tank ruptures even in the annealed condition resulting from a fire. At 2500+ the burst disk will let go before the tank reaches anneal temperature (350°F) and ruptures.

Between those points you put the firefighters responding to your house fire at increased risk. Lord knows they have enough of that risk stuff in their job as it is without us adding more to it.

Easy solution, Dive steel. The disk (if it's legal) and/or tank O-ring and valve seal surface will always let go before a servicable steel tank ruptures from heat.
