Atlantis Azores Captain’s Log October 18 – 24, 2014
Bohol Itinerary - ‘Awesome Visibility Week’

This week the water temperature was a balmy 84F/29C and we encountered calm seas all week. Once again we started off our trip with a stop to snorkel with the gathering whale sharks at Oslob. This is such a unique opportunity, and for many guests, their first time in the water with these gentle giants. We then moved the short distance over to the walls and coral gardens of Sumilon Island to start our diving. Today, we saw not 1, not 2, but 6 black tip reef sharks!

Cabilao Island was our next stop. This island has a wonderful series of sites to dive, each scattered with a multitude of coral gardens that are filled with shrimps, crabs, and schooling groups of colorful reef fish.

Panglao Island followed, and the diving had its share of plenty of banner fish and Moorish idols to delight us. We dried off a bit and stepped ashore for a Bohol land tour where we visited ‘The Blood Contract’. This sculpture is significant in that it marks the beginning of the Spanish era within the Philippines. We then visited and admired the metal knife shops on our way to view the tiny tarsier monkeys and iconic Chocolate Hills.

Back on board, we then cruised to the picturesque island of Balicasag. The visibility was stunning this week and once again the south-side walls were just spectacular. Two full days just wasn’t enough to cover all the dive sites we have here.

We left Balicasag behind and headed over to Liloan, which is located on the southern end of Cebu Island. The sea snakes were everywhere! Our enjoyable diving continued to delight one and all here.

We finished our week again back at our Dumaguete resort where our guests spent a leisurely afternoon relaxing and packing. The night ended with a wonderful Filipino pig roast and live entertainment by our local ‘Nitrox Band’.

Thanks again to our guests for a wonderful week of diving with us aboard the Atlantis Azores.

It was great fun meeting you, and thank you very much for the tour of the Azores we did on our last day at Atlantis. It's a very nice boat, and I was amazed to hear my husband, who generally does not like the idea of liveaboards, saying he would consider a week on your boat!
