Just back from the USVIs and had a great time. Although staying on St. John, found that the diving there was only ok. Went with Cruz Bay Watersports and found that they were a good, professional group albeit clearly directing their dives to the tourist happens to dive rather than the diver who happens to be a tourist. Found the same in speaking with Paradise, although didn't go out with them.
THEN, found my way over to Blue Island Divers in St. Thomas. Really liked the dive shop -- clearly didn't seem to focus on the resort course graduates. Dove a wreck called the Wit Shoal with them. It was great! Only regret was that I didn't get a chance to dive it again. Next time. Also did the navy barges -- two barges about 100 feet apart. Wrecks were pretty good, lots of sea life, including a healthy size nurse shark in to mate.
In the end, didn't dive the Rhone. Decided that wasn't worth a full day away from the family or twice the price of a normal 2-tank dive. Also, although it sounds need if your a history buff, wasn't convinced that was going to be a great dive, particularly after the Wit Shoal.
Certainly would recommend both the Wit Shoal and Blue Island Divers to anyone who's heading down there.
