At one stop we met an old, weather-beaten peasant who lived alone in a wooden hut near the river, producing honey for part of his livelihoodsome of which we bought for our journey. Finally, on a pebble beach on one of the large meandering bends in the river, we unloaded all the gear, and pitched camp for the night with a good open fire of driftwood to cook over.
