Hi hi,

We might visit Mauritius in July for 3 weeks.
I understand that W, NW and N is the best place to be in July.

I found enough about diving, but we would like to go to a place where there is good snorkelling accessible from the beach.

Which place should we go?

Ps, any (budget) place to stay would also be welcome.

Thanx,

The best place to snorkel in Mauritius is blue bay. this marine park is located off the end of the runway at the airport. Blue Lagoon and the Shandrani Resorts have boats that can take you snorkeling. The boats don't go out on sunday. You can swim out from the shore, but the local boats will show you the best spots to snorkel.

Hi,

But I understood the east coast is not the place to be in July.

The mouth to blue bay is more south then east. There is an island that is in the mouth that leads to the bay. Plus the outer reef slowes down the waves.

jan390 PM me, maybe I can help you out with some information.

Hi,

Blue Bay is definitely not the place to be in July. Too windy, too much surge to go out of the lagoon. Go to Trou aux Biches or Flic en Flac... Lagoons are OK for snorkeling, not the best you can get though... Diving is brilliant anyway.

It's easy to rent small appartements for about 1000-1500 rupees (20 to 30 euros) there, hard to find cheaper in Mauritius...
