Which version do you use of photoshop, CS3 or CS4 is needed with camera raw update (version 4.31???)

I have Camera Raw 4.0 and CS3 Photoshop 10.0 and they handle DNG fine. Any major advantage to NEF?

did you update photoshop after instaling? I'm useing a D80 and after instaling the nef's were not reconised. After update no problem.

Hi ReefHugger:

I shoot with a D300 and D70s, and CS3 handled the NEF files fine. As scubaphoto indicated, be sure you have the most recent up-dates. (Help>Updates).

Yes, there is an advantage to shooting/editing in RAW files (Nikon NEF). This is non-destructive editing: any changes are made in a "side-car" file, not to the original image. This is a great feature for both Photoshop and LightRoom.

Have Fun,

Dan

Thanks for your replies I am now up and running.

After wrestling with and researching the problem, I came to the conclusion that the problem was not one of recognising NEF. My understanding is that the various updates are, in the main, 'cookies/drivers'? telling Camera Raw/CS3/Lightroom about specific camera models. Probably needs this info to do the metadata - aperture, iso, speed etc. etc.

Found that Camera Raw vs.4.4.1 recognised the D60. And also, Lightroom as early as vs. 1.4.1 also does the same.
