I'd like recommendations for books featuring comprehensive descriptions of diving conditions and expected species in the various major dive destinations around the world. They don't have to encyclopedic, containing vast lists of charter names and telephone numbers. I anticipate using one or several overview books as a gateway to refine my destinations.

Not looking for coffee table books with pretty pictures of five star resorts that happen to be near the beach like the "50 Places...before you die" series.

One that I can recommend for Florida is "Ned DeLoach's Diving Guide to Underwater Florida". It covers freshwater springs as well as the ocean.

Got it, thanks.
