I made the assumption that the poll was regarding diving with a new buddy or a different site that may require different exit protocols (like one with a lot of boat traffic). With a regular buddy and typical dive conditions, we don't re-discuss separation procedures and we don't expect to be separated. We always dive beside each other and know not only that our buddy is right there, but what our buddy is doing/dealing with and approximately how much gas they have starting, mid-way and at our planned ascent pressure.
 
I have only been separated from my buddies once. Viz was low and we all ended up surfacing, finding each other and continued the dive.

What to do if separated from my dive buddy is part of every dive brief for me.
 
My wife is my buddy. Trust me, I know what the plan is.
