Read the stickys and got some good info, but want some diver opinions... my olympus stylus (waterproof to 33 ft) just died.

I can get it repaired for 107 bucks.

I can get the updated version with a 2 year warranty for 194.

I like the waterproof aspect of it and how tough it is, but I also want to get into more UW photography soonish.

Should I get the newer version and a housing for it later? Or maybe go with a different regular camera (even though I might miss the tough aspect of it) and get a housing later?

Anyone know if the Tough 8000 is a pretty good camera that could be a good setup if/when I get a housing and strobes? Or should I opt for something else?

Thanks for the help!

Devon

I hate the Stylus Tough series. Too much megapixels cranked up into too small a sensor = too much noise. There is no manual or semi-manual modes on this camera so it's a waste of money for an underwater camera. Only good for pool sessions...
I posted a very rough and quick comparison with my 2004 Canon A85 (way cheaper btw, I got a brand new housing and a spare camera for less than $60 on ebay) on my website at DigitalAquamarine.com

Sorry for the rain on your parade...
