Can a SMB be too big? Advice please from big Float users - Carter or others

I think you made a good choice, good quality, reasonable size. The flapper valve eliminates a lot of problems.

Doesn't take that much air to get it to the surface with a reasonable profile. For me preliminary deployment is to keep from being run over by a boat, which can be a problem in some places, like Puerto Galera. Once on the surface, if you need mode visibility, add air.

95%+ of the time, I don't bother using it, but when the boat is along way off, I ant something big & bright to show my location.
 
As for controlling a tall lift bag. fold it over and hold both ends. You can control both inflation and the purge valve, while controlling your accent. We did this on one of my certification dives and it worked fine. We picked up 20 lbs of lead and hauled it all around a wreck from the sand to the deck and back again.

I have a DAN SMB that hopefully will be tall enough for the Capt to see when SHTF.
