I took my S500 to Guanaja in May but after a few exposure issues, I went back to my S400 and felt more comfortable. I really wanted to give the S500 a fair chance so I went out to the Flower Gardens 7/1&7/2 and promised myself that I would only use the S500.

There were a couple exposure issues, mainly with highly reflective subjects (Barracuda). Other than those subjects, it worked as well as the S400.

Here's the folder for anyone interested in samples from this camera. -- Flower Gardens 2004
S500 - ISO-50, WB Cloudy, AIAF-off
Sea&Sea YS-25DX external strobe

Other photos, underwater and not.

Cabo, Loved your pics, especially the Moray shots. I just bought an S500 myself and haven't taken it underwater yet. I wanted something a little smaller than my old girlfriend's S40. Got the case and have been trying to decide on strobe options. I was thinking of just buying another UK light cannon and mounting it. Do you have an alternate, better, or cheaper solution suggetsion? What did you use?

Thanks,
John

If I was able to re-choose my lighting, I would go for the YS-90DX instead of the 25. This would give me more light.

I really like the size of the 25 and it makes my whole setup really portable but would just like a bit more power underwater. The size of the camera/case was a big selling point for me so the 25 seemed like the right choice at the time. The strobe was as much as the camera+case but I should have still added $100 and got the 90.
