Is it the retaining ring or the cover that unscrews on those? I know it's the cover with the Air2, but this looks different.

Nevermind, I just answered my own question. Apply heat.
It was the retaining ring--damn thing was absolutely full of salt crystals.

I typically use a V- shaped pin spanner wrench.

I know what you're talking about. It wasn't actually an Air2, and the stupid retaining ring didn't have the notches
