I haven't done shore dives down there, but you might want to see what conditions are like. Viz would generally be better off of a boat...

appreciate your comments.

I live in San Diego and do about 50 shore dives a year! La Jolla shores and cove provide great shore diving (about 3 miles between each other!) The cove is a shallow dive (average depth is about 40ft) while LJ Shores offers deeper dives since it has a canyon that's 1000's of feet deep. Last weekend I had the opportunity of running in to a couple of huge 40ft grey whales while in the LJ Canyon. Great experience. DiveBums.com is one of the best sites for information on San Diego shore diving!

I'm heading to San Diego at the end of March on business. I was able to have the boss send me there a couple of days ahead of the conference so I will have time to explore.

So any recommendations of "must sees" (above or below the water) would be appreciated.

Hi DivingGal - I'm from just up the coast from there and will be doing a DIR-F class at Catalina the end of March (care 2 join us?), but I've been on the Lois Ann http://www.loisann.com/ and had a great time. They cater to technical divers (Nitrox, steel tanks w/H valves available) and have reasonably priced trips that do the Yukon, Ruby E and the Kelp beds - all in all I thought it was a pretty nice dive. (FYI, I dove wetsuit in December and didn't have a problem).

The only "must see" that I'd add is the San Diego Wild Animal Park - http://www.sandiegozoo.org/wap/homepage.php3 The last time I went (December) we did the Photo Safari where you go down into the actual park enclosure - very sweet!

Well I decided not to (gasp) take my kit with me, I just didn't want to take the chance of my kit going one way, and me another. I have diving scheduled almost every weekend up here for the next three months.

Thanks very much for the advice to go to the aquarium and the phot caravan. Both well worth the drive and visit. I had a blast!

I really enjoyed the weather while I was there, though I went under a bit of a shock on my return home. San Diego was approximately 80F --- on arrival back home 10F (with snow).
