Does anyone have any idea or firsthand knowledge of what effect (if any) the recent storms will have on viz this weekend? Contemplating going over on Saturday, but don't want to be disappointed with mediocre viz!

Report from a local diver yesterday said vis was 30 ft in the dive park

Thanks!

Is the kelp back yet?

in palos verdes the surface kelp is gone, but 10 feet down it's so thick it's hard to get through.

Yeah in laguna it's pretty healthy but not totally back by any means. I was wondering about casino point, though, bc I heard it got wiped out pretty good.

Heard from a friend that vis was phenomenal at Two Harbors today.

Ugh. I just made the decision not to go tomorrow. Of course I hear something like this now

I was diving at Casino point last week, 11/25-11/26 and there was zero surface kelp.

Very little at depth either. But still had a great time!

Are there any run off / bacteria level issues there like there are on the mainland after a rain event?

I think the issue of storm runoff is not a big one at the dive park although we don't test the water there on a regular basis. Avalon Bay could be a different story immediately after a rain.

I don't expect the kelp to be returning soon since the invasive Sargassum is dominating the landscape and thereby largely out-competing the young giant kelp for sunlight, substrate and nutrients.

Visibility in Avalon Bay looked very good but I haven't been out to the dive park yet. Heading there to take a look today but I expect vis to be in the 30-40 ft range.
