I'm looking for information on cheap hotels in Oahu. Preferably under 100/night. Not looking for anything luxurious, just a place to sleep with a short walk or ride to the beach.

Any times?

Thanks.

Try looking up the Queen Kapiolani. It's on Kapahulu at the diamondhead side of Waikiki. Nice, quite area. Hotel is nothing fancy, but I've stayed there before for $60/night.

The Hawaiana is close to the beach and reasonably priced. Call them for a price. They have good deals sometimes.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Heavy construction going on over near the Hawaiiana - They tore down 3 hotels.

The Waikiki Sand Villa is a hotel that is 3 blocks away from the beach, a block away from the grocery store and is right on the Ala Wai. We have had a couple of people stay there and they were all satisfied. Just checked via Bookit.com and a standard room starts at $69.- /night

I pay $69/night for a 16th floor condo with a view of two pools and the beach. Thats a long term price, not sure about the short term price. Numbers are way down this year, you might be able to bargan hunt.

Can you elaborate? I have tentatively booked in Sept., but still looking.

Here is a good site, to see how aerial view of the hotel compare to others nearby.

Also, if you have an address, try
http://maps.google.com/
You can dynamically "move" the map by dragging your mouse. Also try the satellite view. Can see the buildings from an aerial view (and see some Scuba board members picking their nose)

Thanks everybody, at least I know I have a bunch of hotel options. As i'm looking for hotels, I now have a second question. I'm a moderately advanced diver (not advanced open water yet but about 75 dives) I've done Cozumel, Playa Del Carmen, Cancun, and cold water low visibility New England dives.

What are some good spots to check out in Hawaii? Who should I use? This should probably be a seperate thread but I hate asking the same question over and over again when I can just search the forum

Thanks,
-Mike

What time of year are you coming? If it's during the summer, take advantage of the north shore conditions and get some dives in up there.

If it's mid September or later, the surf on the north shore starts picking up and it's not predictably flat anymore. By that time I've usually reverted back to boat dives only. Most dive operators will do the first dive on a wreck (deep) and follow up with a shallow reef dive. Sometimes (not too often) you may find an operator that will do two wrecks instead of the regular deep/shallow profile.
