Any recommendations for cheaper hotels in Playa Del Carmen. Plan on staying there for 2-nights in January after a week in Cozumel. Would like to find a place for under $75, but won't complain about $50/ night. A nice pool would be a big plus, the beach is not a needed perk. Thanks.

Mom's Hotel, next to Protec, is $35 now, but might be a little more expensive in December.

+1 Mom's. I have stayed there lots. Small pool, basic room. Cheap and comfortable. Dive shop on site

Hotel Cielo looks nice, but out of the price budget. I have sent Moms Hotel two different emails with no response, anyone else chime in on their communication skills via the internet. For some reason they don't show their rates on their webpage, although you can book your room on it.

Anyone familiar with the WABI hotel?

Write them and ask for the diver special or the returning guest special, they should come down to ~$70/night.

You could try an email to info@protecplaya.com, since they're right next door. I've never actually contacted Mom's via email.

Take a look at Hotel Posada Mariposa as an additional option. They show rooms in December for $73 a night including taxes. A friend stayed there and liked it. His room was on the small side, but clean and well decorated. The lobby area was kinda fancy, boutique like.
