Sunken Bridge in Chilhowee: The current 129 hwy and the underwater 129 hwy bridge run east west. The bridge deck is at 15' about 50 yrds south of the existing bridge over Abrams creek on 129. That is about 1/2 mile east from where the Parkway ends on 129. Parking is on east end of new bridge. You enter the water and swim under the new bridge. There is a small bit of a current on the bottom (55') from the creek. Vis on bridge last weekend was 10' maybe. I've never seen it better than 15'. Be careful of logs and junk under both the new and old bridges. There is a concrete square building on the NW end of old bridge in about 25' or deeper. It's an overhead enviroment if you go in the door which I have never done. Water temp last Monday was 52 on top and 40ish on bottom.

Hi Dr MT

Thank you for relaying that info about the bridge dive too me. Does that lake ever warm up in the summer? I have a 5/16" farmer john and jacket wet suit which should be ok for those temps though. How long is the bridge? Me and my buddy are use to diving in Cherokee Lake where 5' viz is doing pretty good, so ten feet to us would be nice. Is there anything to get caught under the bridge and can you see daylight all the way through? Years ago there was an accident in Cherokee Lake and if I am not mistaken was by a diver going under a bridge and not coming out.

James
