Hi all, Yes indeed I am back. Got a new "DRY" S2 and recently finished a few dives here in Southern Cal.

first of all, the folks I met out here during my brief stay are just great! never have I felt so welcome! thank you! I have to take my hat off to these divers!

anyway, I managed to get some nice images on the 4 dives I did.

the first two were taken off Catalina Island at a site called Casino Point. the water temp was 15 c ( 63 F ) and the vis exceeded 20 m ( 60 ft ).

the second two shots were taken off the san Diego coast. we had originally planned to go to the Coronado islands but due the large swells we had to opt for a couple of wrecks , the HMCS Yukon, the RUBY E. conditions were nasty with lots of surge and poor vis ( about 5 m/15 ft MAX and a cold 12 c/55f ) I froze my tropical butt off!

anyway I still managed to get some decent shots. the last shot is a very tiny anemone that was attached to a piece of kelp on the surface. I consider it the best image of the trip.

I thought you were diving for cash, looks more like diving for fun!
Glad you had a good trip out this way, thanks for posting your pictures so fast.

Likewise, great diving with you and Sapphire, Chris. Looks like there's another storm coming in here- third weekend in a row. Guess I've got to change my schedule and do more weekday diving, if I can chip a hole in the ice at Casino Point!

Hope you are back in the warm water. I'm on my way (well, in the next year or so!).

any idea as to what type of anemone that is on the kelp?

you are correct, this was a rare non work related trip! I hope to return in the future. I wanted to get some sea lion images but the weather just wouldn't let that happen

Chris

My first guess looking at it was Epiactis prolifera, the brooding anemone. However that is just a first guess.

Wow, that is neat. Just how big is that anemone? Inches or cm.......

Glad I found your 'return' thread. Where's more pictures?
I'm greedy. :D
I'd still like to see what you could do with a disposable UW camera. :)

Chris, it was great meeting you. As always your pictures take my breath away and remind me exactly why I brave the chilly California waters. Thanks for sharing. Keep in touch!!
