Actually the EVA prebreathe is solely to remove dissolved nitrogen.

And the reasons for removing the N2 are?

  • Bends (suit at .2 ATA with pure oxygen for mobility) - sure.
  • ...
  • ...
  • list of other concerns
  • somewhere near the bottom: oxygen bends due to explosive decompression accident with concomitant counter current nitrogen uptake.

Nitrogen removal is to supress tissue bubble growth. Nothing else to date has been anticipated by NASA except normal garden variety DCS.
