I live and work in sharm and we run safaris down there and have heard nothing about this?

I'm back.

So we sailed from Hurghada instead of Marsa Alam, which cost us some extra travel by boat but spared us a 4 hour bus trip. We made it to Elphinstone, did some great dives along the way there and back, and had a pretty relaxed week. The water was around 22 degrees C, there was a lot of wind the first two or three days, and a ripping current around the north plateau of Elphinstone. No oceanic whitetip sharks this time :-(

I'll do a longer trip report later. Thanks for your comments so far.
