Interesting. Hope this model fares better. For me, the Omega always breathed a little wet despite the coaxial design. I was glad to see how dry the 500e was. The second stage diaphragm is just a little different, although the valve is just the same as the Omega, as you said.
You're absolutely right, the first stage, although very lightweight, has a completely nonsensical port positioning. I can't say that it is something that I'll use again.
Do you know the source of the leaks in the seconds? If I were to guess, I would say it would be a servo valve spring weakening, or the valve pad taking a set on the servo. There's no reason that shouldn't have to be regularly replaced just like poppet seats.
