Dive Kadavu

We are planning a trip to Kadavu, Fiji. I read some reviews about Dive Kadavu resort, not positive! However, we have booked and paid. If any one has traveled there recently, please give us some advices. We are also thinking about to book Matava resort in Kadavu, any suggestions? Many thanks for your help!

In Kadavu it all depends what is important to you. If you are the kind of person who needs air con and well appointed accommodation with some pleasant diving then Kadavu Matana is a good choice. Kadavu is a quiet island a million miles away from the big resort plagued areas like the Coral Coast but if you dont want to do without mod cons then Kadavu Matana is the place.

Matava resort is a little different. This is a natural, eco-friendly sort of place where there is no electricity and you find your way back to your bungalow with the aid of a lantern. This is very atmospheric and because the place is clean and well run some people love the adventure and aura of the place. Others will whine about lack of air con, reading lights etc. The diving is also different since it is from here in the south of the island that you can dive the Great Astrolabe Reef with beautiful fields of pristine hard corals and a good amount of big fish action.

You will see very different people in the two resorts. In Kadavu Matana you are more likely to find slightly older holiday makers and in Matava it is more young and/or adventurous types or those whose sole focus is the Great Astrolabe Reef.

We were there Thanksgiving 2004. Nice quiet resort next to Fiji village. No nitrox, no afternoon dives unless they can fill the boat! Will go back to Fiji but will probably choose another resort.
