I'll be staying at a resort in Surfer's Paradise this winter for a week.

Any good diving in the area? I won't have time for a liveaboard of any sort...just day trips. (Traveling with family...currently in negotiations for how many dive days I get.)

I'd love to know about any good dive ops in the area as well.

Many thanks in advance.

There is some shore diving at the Southport Seaway which is about 10 minutes car ride from Surfers. Ian Banks is a guy that dives the Sea way about everyday (Diving The Gold Coast)

About a 30min drive south of Surfers is Tweed Heads and a dive shop called Kirra Dive ( Home | Kirra Dive; escaping one world to discover another). Paul the owner is a really nice guy and they do shore diving in the local Tweed river and the island offshore called Cook Island.

If your looking to do a day trip and some diving. Day trip for the family and excuse for you to go diving, there is always Byron Bay which is about an hours drive south of Surfers. There is plenty to do in Byron for the family as its a really pretty spot and the diving at Julian Rocks offshore from Byron is classed as one of the top 10 sites in Australia. Two dive shops in Byron, Sundive (Dive Australia Scuba Diving with Sun Dive Byron Bay) and Byron Bay Dive Centre (About Byron Bay Dive Centre, Australia, Scuba Dive and Snorkelling Specialists).

Hope this helps.

Regards Mark
