My wife and I are planning a trip to Vera Cruz in 2012 and are wanting to do a couple dives while there and were wanting to hear back from some people who have dived in the area and who might have some suggestions as to some good dive shops. Any suggestions or comments would be deeply appreciated.

There are basically two important shops there: Scubaver and Dorado Buceo. The Tourism board just assembled a very nice e-book regarding underwater Veracruz which you might enjoy. The three main destinations are basically North, Center and South. North being Isla de Lobos (logistically complicated since its a virgin island more than 2 hours from the coast by boat) and it´s surrounding, Center being Veracruz port outskirts and the island of Anton Lizardo and South being the Roca Partida area. The pdf is very complete regarding what you will find at each spot. I have been doing a lot of research since I am soon going to dive there.

This is the guide

Dorado Buceo @ Dorado Buceo Veracruz.
Scubaver @ Scubaver - Buceo Scuba Cursos Veracruz

I will surely post more info once I return from my trip in about 20 days.

If I can help you out please contact me (Mike). My company specializes in vacation trips to the state of Veracruz - Discover Veracruz Tours - Mexico Adventure Tours, Mexico Ecotourism | Discover Veracruz Tours, discoververacruztours@gmail.com

We provide bilingual guides and transportation for all kinds of outdoor activities in the state of Veracruz, including diving trips to the Veracruz Coral Reef System National Underwater Park.

I am currently in Veracruz, so if you have any specific dive questions I can't answer, I will be happy to talk with the dive folks here directly and then get back to you with the answers.

I have done more than 200 dives in this area. I also recommend the same diveshops as
ElGaucho. There are other smaller reliable operators, so if you do not find space for
your dates, do not hesitate to ask. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Cheers, Itziar
